System: Switch (eShop)
Release date: December 13, 2018
Developer: Nomada Studio
Publisher: Devolver Digital

Every now and again a game comes along that feels leagues apart from everything else we see in the industry. Whether through its story, art style, gameplay, or even a combination of all those elements, those titles are the ones that will most likely leave a lasting impression on us for years. Even though those games are few and far between, when they do show up it feels like a breath of fresh air in a space that can feel stale and stifling every so often. Gris, published by Devolver Digital and developed by Nomada Studio, is one of those special releases.

This week’s North American Nintendo Downloads are as follows:

Switch Retail

Atari Flashback Classics – $39.99
RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures – $49.99

Earlier this week, we heard from Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime in which he tried to explain why Red Dead Redemption isn’t on Switch. In an interview with IGN, he commented further on third-party support for the console.

On some third-party gaps, Reggie reiterated:

Nintendo Switch

YouTuber Doctre81 has spotted a couple of interesting profile listings from Blind Squirrel Games that point to a possible new collection for Switch. The developer appears to be working for an unspecified company on some sort of collection.

One staffer mentions that he’s remastering/porting a trio of fighting titles from the 90’s, planned for Switch and other platforms. The staffer is making “UIUX designs for all screens with newly designed features”.

Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo of America recently filed a lawsuit against a man selling NES Classic Edition and Switch consoles with pirated games. Essentially, the illegitimate NES Classic had 800 ROMs for $15 above the retail price while the fake Switch hardware used Team Xecuter’s SX dongle and pirated games. Nintendo is going after this person on nine separate infringements. It’s interesting and we expect Nintendo to prevail here, but there’s something else from the situation which might be even more noteworthy.

Included in the lawsuit document is a tidbit about the Switch eShop. It calls out the “Nintendo Switch Online shop” that was “formerly Nintendo eShop”.

What could this mean? Will the Switch eShop be getting a simple name change? Is Nintendo planning a more in-depth makeover? Only time will tell.

More:

Nintendo just published a brand new Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr.’s Journey trailer on its Japanese YouTube channel. Watch it below.

As mentioned yesterday, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director Masahiro Sakurai was interviewed in this week’s issue of Famitsu. But much to our surprise, there was a column as well. We’ll be posting a translation of the interview soon, but are sharing the column first below.

In his piece, Sakurai addresses Spirits mode in great detail. He explains how it all came to be, why there really isn’t much in the way of story, and a whole lot more.

Here’s our full translation:

Suda51 will be appearing during a Famitsu live stream next week for a new Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes presentation. It’ll be two hours long, offering the latest look at the game and more. An English interpretation of the proceedings will be provided to users.

The Famitsu Monthly Serial: Goichi Suda’s Travis Returns stream will begin on December 20 at the following times:
