Yuji Naka arrested Square Enix

Original: Reports out of Japan indicate that Yuji Naka has been arrested by the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office. A case has been kicking around this week regarding insider trading, and it seems Naka is now involved.

It was already reported earlier today that Square Enix employee Taisuke Sazaki and their acquaintance Fumiaki Suzuki were arrested for unfairly acquiring stock in Aiming. Square Enix works with Aiming on mobile games, including Dragon Quest Tact and Gestalt Odin. Sazaki and Suzuki were arrested under suspicions of purchasing around 47 million yen of stock in Aiming before it was officially revealed that they would be working with Square Enix on Dragon Quest Tact.

According to Live A Live director Takashi Tokita, the RPG almost received a sequel during the DS era.

Tokita shared that information in a recent interview with Famitsu. He said that while there were plans for a new game, “it was hard to display the passion of Live A Live fans to the company, and so we ended up in an impasse.”

Dragon Quest Monsters Switch

A new Dragon Quest Monsters game is on the way to Switch, Square Enix just announced. Specifics such as a release window were not provided.

Today’s news comes as part of a special 25th anniversary celebration video for the series. The very first entry, Dragon Warrior Monsters, came to Japan as a Game Boy Color release in 1998 followed by the west at the start of 2000.

PowerWash Simulator has been going into overdrive with collaborations as of late. Just a week ago, we found out about a partnership with SpongeBob SquarePants. Previously, the game received DLC for Final Fantasy VII and Tomb Raider.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line Final Fantasy future

The developers of Theatrhythm Final Bar Line have weighed in on the series’ future. This could be the end… or perhaps not.

Series director Masanobu Suzui and producer Ichiro Hazama recently spoke with Dengeki Online, and said that Final Bar Line is intended to be the last game in the series. However, Hazama did acknowledge that things may not necessarily end if fans show their interest. It was also shared that Nomura came up with the new for the new title.

Theatrhythm Final Bar Line no touch controls

Previous Theatrhythm games allowed games to use touch controls, but Final Bar Line is all about buttons. This is in spite of the fact that Switch does have a touch screen. In a recent interview, series director Masanobu Suzui and producer Ichiro Hazama revealed that there was some consideration around supporting both methods, but it wasn’t meant to be.

Suzui, speaking with Dengeki Online, brought up one factor which is that Switch has a capacitance-type touchscreen while 3DS featured a pressure-type one. While there was talk about supporting button controls and touch controls for each song, he said that the team “already needed multiple copies of sheet music for each song to account for difficulty levels.”

Here’s our translation of the comments from Suzui and Hazama:

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster sales

Square Enix announced the first sales milestone for Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, with the collection selling over two million copies. That figure goes for units across all platforms worldwide.

Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI are all a part of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster is primarily a digital release with all games available individually on the eShop. However, Square Enix offered a short print run through its online store. You can currently nab a physical copy by importing from Asia here.

Square Enix Golden Week 2023 sale Harvestella

To celebrate the Japanese holiday, Square Enix is now hosting a Golden Week 2023 sale on the Switch eShop – and it includes the lowest price ever for Harvestella and more. Other typical games ranging from Dragon Quest to Final Fantasy are a part of the fun as well.

The full lineup of deals is as follows:

Fans of Octopath Traveler and its sequel might be wondering if Octopath Traveler III could be in the cards at some point, but the team behind the latest RPG isn’t making any commitments just yet. This was briefly brought up in an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu.

Director Keisuke Miyauchi, producer Masashi Takahashi, and artist Naoki Ikushima participated in the chat. Takahashi would end up sharing some interesting insight into Octopath Traveler II, and specifically how the team decided to opt for evolution rather than making big changes to the core gameplay of the original.

Square Enix has announced that Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline will be receiving a substantial paid content expansion very soon. Said expansion, titled “The Sleeping Hero and the Guiding Ally”, will release on May 26 in Japan for 4,400 yen.

This expansion will apparently provide an amount of content equivalent to that of the base game, with players being able to experience new adventures in the land of Rendashia via luxury cruise ship rides or even the ability to fly through the sky on a dragon’s back. Additionally, this version will feature new story content not present in the original Online release, revolving around the expansion’s new party member Anlucia.
