Let’s Play Video Games has followed up with a third report about the NX within the past week.
Based on what the site has heard from one of its sources (“working on an NX title set to launch Holiday 2017, corroborated and lined up with information from sources we have worked with during the past week”), it claims to have information about the layout of the current development kit. A mockup image can be seen above.
As we’ve previously heard, the NX is supposedly a hybrid console with detachable controllers. The split d-pad, A, B, X, Y, and a camera / share button are all there. As for the size, the source writes the following:

Horii gives an update on Dragon Quest XI, confirms Spell of Restoration and casino
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Switch | 2 Comments
Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii appeared at CEDEC 2016 today, and while giving a presentation, shared an update on Dragon Quest XI.
Development on the RPG’s scenario is now full complete. Currently, Square Enix is implementing maps, scenarios, and other such elements. It’s now at the stage where you can get an impression of them, but the details are still being filled out.
Yesterday, Horii met with Square Enix’s Yosuke Saito for a five-to-six-hour business meeting. The check of an episode took three hours, and various other ideas came into discussion. The response speed of the 3DS’ 3D mode was specifically being checked, which will be applied to the 3DS version’s 2D mode and PlayStation 4 version. Battle checks were also done for the PlayStation 4 (and NX?) version.
Finally, Horii officially confirmed that Dragon Quest XI will have the “Spell of Restoration”, which was used during the series’ early days as a password save system. In the new game, it’s a very “30th anniversary-ish thing,” Horii said. Horii also said that Dragon Quest XI will be including a casino.

Rumor: NX’s detachable controllers have motion control and force feedback
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Rumors, Switch | 183 Comments
If a new report from LetsPlayVideoGames is to be believed, the NX will indeed feature detachable controllers as Eurogamer previously mentioned along with basic motion control similar to that of the Wii Remote Plus and a form of “advanced vibration force feedback”.
The site says that the controllers are intended to eventually phase out the Wii Remote. Although you’ll be able to use Wii Remotes with some multiplayer titles, not all will be supported.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided producer doesn’t have much to say about NX support
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 28 Comments
Some companies have been more open with regards to NX support than others. The likes of Square Enix, SEGA, and Ubisoft have already confirmed games for the system. On the other hand, Eidos Montreal seems a bit more hesitant.
Finder.com.au asked Olivier Proulx, the producer of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, if he’d be interested in seeing his new project on NX at any point. Here’s the full exchange:
Square is known to support the NX with Dragon Quest and we also saw the director’s cut of Human Revolution appear as one of the first games on Wii U – would you want to see Mankind Divided on NX one day?
We’ve never thought about the NX. Right now there’s nothing new to announce there. We’ve just been looking at PC, Xbox One and PS4, and that’s been our focus.
Well, if you were a betting man, what do you reckon the chances are?
I can’t be that obvious. I can’t bet on this (laughs).
One interesting thing to remember is that Deus Ex: Human Revolution – the series’ previous entry – made its way to Wii U and was largely considered to be the best version. It’d be interesting if something like that happened again with NX. If that did happen though, it’d be another late port.

Dragon Quest XI reconfirmed for NX, may launch alongside other versions
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 54 Comments
Square Enix recently reconfirmed Dragon Quest X for NX. Now we can say the same about the series’ latest entry, Dragon Quest XI.
In this month’s issue of Nintendo Dream, Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii, Pokemon series producer Junichi Masuda, and Super Smash Bros. series director Masahiro Sakurai all participated in a roundtable discussion. At one point, the discussion shifted to Dragon Quest XI, and Horii said that the game will indeed be on NX. Moreover, it sounds like the goal is to have all versions launch simultaneously in order to avoid spoilers.
Here’s the full exchange, as translated by Gematsu:

Nintendo on the demographic for NX, stronger relationship between teams
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News, Switch | 250 Comments
On Friday, Nikkei Trendy published a new interview with Shinya Takahashi, General Manager of Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development. There’s admittedly not a whole lot in the discussion that’s new. However, it does offer some additional perspective on some topics, including NX.
At one point, the interviewer brings up how when Wii was being released, he heard that a part of the plan to get the system next to a television in living rooms was to make a game console that moms wouldn’t hate. That prompted Nikkei Trendy to ask if there plans like this for NX.
Takahashi said in response:
“I can’t talk about this in detail yet, but we are aiming so that neither people who like games nor moms dislike it. I think that I want to release a game device that both customers who have much experience in gaming and customers who haven’t played much can enjoy greatly.”
