Super Mario Galaxy celebrates its 10th anniversary

Super Mario Galaxy is celebrating a milestone anniversary today. The game originally debuted on Wii ten years ago in Japan – November 1, 2007 – with the overseas release taking place a couple of weeks later.
I personally have fond memories of Super Mario Galaxy. It was one of the earliest games we covered on the site, and it’s right up there for me as one of my favorite games of all time. I remember going into it without being overly interested, only to end up being completely blown away.

Factor 5 almost delivered a new Pilotwings game on two separate occasions. The first instance was during the GameCube era, when the studio imagined a title that would have taken place in the real world during the height of the Cold War.
The second time a partnership with Nintendo almost emerged was following Factor 5’s relationship with Sony and after the release of Wii. In contrast to what had been planned for the GameCube, the Wii project had a lighter tone. Factor 5 was interested in creating an open world loosely based on Earth with various aircraft and missions.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild surpasses sales of Twilight Princess in Japan

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild reached a major milestone in Japan this past week. Based on the latest data from Media Create, it has now outsold Twilight Princess.
Media Create has Breath of the Wild selling a total 576,067 units on Switch. You can add another 133,024 copies for the Wii U version. We should also note that Media Create hasn’t provided an update for the Wii U version in quite some time, so the sales there should be even higher.
Famitsu readers choose the top 100 best games of all time

Japanese magazine Famitsu put out its 1,500th issue this past week. In celebration of that, readers were asked to vote on the top 100 games of all time.
A number of Nintendo games made the list, including the a few in the top ten. These include Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Splatoon, which were selected fifth best and third best respectively.

New Easter Egg found in Resident Evil 4 more than a decade later

YouTuber Slippy Slides has stumbled upon an interesting Easter Egg in Resident Evil 4. Some sort of mystery person is hidden away in one of the game’s areas, and he’s pretty tough to see normally.
Slippy Slides messed around with Resident Evil 4 a bit and managed to place the camera in a spot that shows this person in a slightly more clearer light. Yet even after that, the model is rather blurry. After going through the game’s files, Slippy Slides found out that it’s actually a 2D texture. Was it a developer who worked on the project way back in the day? Or something else entirely?

Nintendo loses lawsuit with iLife involving Wii Remote tech, ordered to pay $10 million

Update: Nintendo’s statement is in, and is as follows:
“On Aug. 31, 2017, a jury in Texas found that certain Wii and Wii U video game systems and software bundles infringed a patent belonging to iLife Technologies Inc. related to detecting if a person has fallen down. The jury awarded iLife $10 million in damages. Nintendo disagrees with the decision, as Nintendo does not infringe iLife’s patent and the patent is invalid. Nintendo looks forward to raising those issues with the district court and with the court of appeals.”
Original: Several years ago, iLife Technologies Inc. and Dallas-based law firm Munck Wilson Mandala filed a $144 million patent infringement case against Nintendo of America. Nintendo was accused of infringing on iLife’s motion-sensing accelerometer technology present in Wii Remote controllers.
A verdict was finally handed down today. A jury in Dallas, Texas sided with iLife, and Nintendo will be forced to pay $10 million.

EDGE ranks the top 100 greatest games (2017 edition)

Back in 2015, EDGE published a special issue of its magazine featuring what it felt was the top 100 greatest games of all time. This month, they’re back at it again with a revised list.
The 2017 edition makes a number of changes. One big addition is Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which has taken Dark Souls’ spot as EDGE’s best game of all time. Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Zelda: Ocarina of Time remain in the top ten, however.

Video shows more objectives in Mario Kart Wii’s cut mission mode

Earlier this month, YouTuber MrBean35000vr made a significant discovery about Mario Kart Wii. It turns out that Nintendo had been planning a Mission Mode at one point, similar to what was included in Mario Kart DS.
MrBean35000vr returned with another video today. He’s shared new findings, including all of the functional objectives left behind in the game’s code. You can get a look at that and more in the video below.

Let’s Sing 2018 heading to Switch and Wii

Let’s Sing 2018 was announced today, and the game is heading to two generations of Nintendo platforms. It’ll be available on October 20 for Wii, and this Christmas on Switch. Ravenscourt and Voxler says Let’s Sing 2018 will be Switch’s first karaoke game.
Let’s Sing 2018 features 30 international smash hits, including “Hymn For The Weekend” from Coldplay, “Faded” from Alan Walker, “I Hate U” from Gnash ft. Olivia O’Brien, and “Rockabye” from Clean Bandit ft. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie. Other chart toppers from the likes of Lukas Graham with “7 Years”, Calvin Harris with “My Way”, The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey with “Closer” and more will be added as well.
