Level-5 International America followed up on the company’s Japanese “Vision” announcements made earlier today. Overviews of two new titles, Layton 7 and Wonder Flick, were provided in an official recap.
First, here’s what Level-5 said of Layton 7:
LAYTON 7 is a puzzle game for the new generation that follows in the footsteps of the PROFESSOR LAYTON series, which has now shipped over 15 million units worldwide. Players take on various character roles; you may be a taxi driver, a young boy, a dog, a fine lady, a philanthropist, an elderly man, or even a zombie. The player will earn points as they fulfill a given role. But, what is the role of these characters? And what is the greater meaning of these roles to begin with? The latest title in the LAYTON series is shrouded in mystery and is about to begin! The game is being developed for Nintendo 3DS and iOS / Android devices as part of our UNIPLAY line-up. Release date has yet to be determined.
And here’s Wonder Flick:
WONDER FLICK is the latest full-scale role-playing game from LEVEL-5 and the inaugural UNIPLAY title. The production team consists of Akihiro Hino, who developed the concept and leads the project as producer / director, character designers Takuzo Nagano and Nao Ikeda, and musical compositions by Nobuo Uematsu, world-renowned for his contributions to game orchestrations. The player, “the fortunate one,” washes ashore in Grimnarth, a world that everyone dreamed of, yet no one has ever seen – an enormous land, scattered with dungeons and towns. A land where a monarch seeks aid in order to save his kingdom. A world of peril, where monsters and kings among dragons await. Where the success or failure of a journey depends on the deft execution of skills in critical moments, and fortunes are made from the rare treasures sealed in their chests. A wealth of equipment to customize one’s hero. The borrowing and lending of friends and their characters to form alliances. Everything that defines a traditional RPG is found in WONDER FLICK – the most sprawling yet accessible original fantasy RPG in the history of LEVEL-5. The game is planned for release in November 2013 on iOS and Android devices in Japan. Console releases (PS Vita / PS3 / PS4 / WiiU / Xbox One) are scheduled for 2014 in Japan.
52 GameStop stores were shuttered by the retailer during the quarter ending August 3. The news was shared during an earnings call last week.
While GameStop did close down a number of outlets, it did open thirteen new ones around the world – seven in the US and another six internationally.
According to GameStop chief financial officer Rob Lloyd:
“We ended the quarter with 6,505 stores. We opened seven and closed 46 in the U.S., and opened six and closed six internationally. We still expect to reduce our store base by about 2 percent this year.”
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies will not be released overseas as a physical product, according to producer Motohide Eshiro.
Eshiro shared the following in a new Capcom-Unity interview:
In response to fan feedback we looked into a western physical release of Dual Destinies but from the beginning of the project, one of our goals has been to bring the game to the western market much more quickly than we have been able to in the past. As text adventures, the Ace Attorney games require a lot of time for localization, so we really moved the proverbial mountains and had a lot of people work very hard to get the text localized as quickly as possible—while of course maintaining the high quality level fans are accustomed to.
As part of this, we made the decision to release on digital only in the west in order to take manufacturing time out of the equation and allow the release date to be as early as possible. So the answer is, no, Dual Destinies will be a digital download-only release in the west.
Capcom announced that the publisher would be bringing Dual Destinies to the west in May. The news was met with some backlash due to the eShop-only launch. Just a couple of months ago, however, Eshiro left the door open to a physical version. It sounds like such a possibility is no longer in the cards.

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams doesn’t work as intended with off-TV play. When initiated, the game’s audio goes missing.
The good news is that this wasn’t just a simple oversight – Black Forest Games is aware of the issues. On Twitter, the studio said it is currently “considering a patch depending on how it works on the system.”
The tweet reads:
Regarding the sound issues on the #WiiU pad: we are considering a patch depending on how it works on the system.
