A few hours ago, Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield were updated to version 1.1.1. While Nintendo said it simply addressed a number of issues to improve the gameplay experience, the patch is actually more significant than the vague statement implies.

We had heard awhile back that hacked Pokemon were popping up in Surprise Trade. Unfortunately, players could be heavily impacted by game crashes and being unable to access online interactions. The good news is that with this week’s update, the exploit has now been addressed.

If you haven’t already, be sure to update Pokemon Sword/Shield before getting involved with Surprise Trade.

The Nintendo Switch Parental Controls app has been given a minimal update. Version 1.11.0 is live on both iOS and Android.

According to Nintendo, today’s patch simply includes the latest bug fixes. There doesn’t appear to be much in the way of any notable additions or changes.

Hamster has dated the next Arcade Archives game for Switch. Formation Z will launch worldwide on March 19, the company has announced.

Formation Z originally released way back in 1984. A game made by Jaleco, this horizontally scrolling shooter involves a robot capable of turning into an aero fighter who must prevent a weapon made by aliens from reaching the Earth.

Pricing for Arcade Archives Formation Z is set at $7.99 / €6.99 / £6.29.

The 1.5-year anniversary countdown bonus started Mar. 17, 11 PM PT. The event will run until March 27th — during the duration, players can claim a free summon voucher as a login bonus, with a maximum of seven vouchers able to be claimed. Make sure to claim the login gifts, as login bonuses are only able to be accepted for a limited time.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield were updated a short while ago, but that’s not the only Pokemon experience on Switch with a new patch. Version 1.0.1 for Pokemon Home is out now.

According to Nintendo, today’s update addresses “several issues to improve gameplay experience.” Nothing else is mentioned.

Pokemon Sword/Shield’s update also had the same, single patch note. It’s possible that it was related to today’s Pokemon Home version upgrade.

Update: Though it wasn’t mentioned in Nintendo’s patch notes, the update also addresses issues relating to hacked Pokemon. Read more about the situation here.


Following the previous update for Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield in January, both games have been updated again. The latest patch is version 1.1.1.

If you were looking for something major this time around, you’ll unfortunately be disappointed. Nintendo says of today’s update: “Fixed several issues to improve gameplay experience.”

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are getting their first DLC, The Isle of Armor, in June as part of the Expansion Pass. The Crown of Tundra will follow this fall.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX has been updated on Switch. Version 1.0.2 is out now, which addresses a game-breaking bug.

Today’s patch addresses one single issue, but it’s a major one. When playing through a dungeon, if the main character and partner Pokemon were defeated and the third Pokemon in the party was removed, the game may have become unplayable from that point on. After installing the update, you can continue from the point where you escaped the dungeon, with your items and money intact.

Nintendo has announced the latest tournament for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The theme this time around is reflect, meaning only fighters with that ability can participate. Expect projectile items to appear as well.

The new tournament goes live on March 20. It will last for a total of three days.
