Update: Entries are now closed! We’ll announce a winner this weekend, likely alongside our next Patreon update.

It’s been awhile since our last giveaway! I’ve sort of had my hands in about 100 different site-related things over the past few months, so they’ve been put on the back burner slightly. Finally though, we’re back with a giveaway pertaining to a game that just launched on the Wii U eShop: Octodad: Dadliest Catch.

In total, we’ve giving away six codes. We have three codes for North America, and another three for European Wii U owners.

The task is simple: tell us about your favorite unconventional game – given the kooky nature of Octodad – in the comments below. Also, please be sure to specify which region you’re entering for! We’ll let the giveaway run through Tuesday, and we’ll then announce the winners soon after, who will be chosen randomly.

Oh, another important thing. All of our $5+ Patreon members are automatically eligible for this giveaway. No comment is needed for them to enter.

I believe that’s all of the important stuff. Good luck, everyone!

Update (11/1): Bumping this to the top. Next weekend, we’ll be choosing our Super Mario Maker giveaway winner. It’s your last chance to enter!

Original (10/5): A few months ago, Nintendo Everything launched its Patreon page. And in August, we held our first giveaway on the site. Those who are pledging $5 or more are eligible for our Partreon giveaways.

We gave away a gold Mario amiibo in August. September’s giveaway was Kid Icarus: Uprising, and I’d like to announce that Glenn Davis is the winner of the game – congratulations! We’ll be in touch shortly to send your reward.

I’d also like to take a moment to announce our prize for October: Super Mario Maker. Just like all of our contests on Patreon, everyone is eligible regardless of their region. So long as you’re pledging $5 by the end of the month, you’ll be automatically entered.

We have a bunch of rewards on our Patreon page ranging from entry into our special Hall of Fame to sneak peeks at upcoming content. If you’re not interested in pledging, that’s totally okay. One thing that would help us immensely though is to ensure that adblock is disabled on Nintendo Everything. We’re not in the best financial situation at the moment!

Last month’s interview of Nintendo Dream contains an extensive Super Mario Maker developer interview. Producer Takashi Tezuka, director Yosuke Oshino, and senior director Yoshikazu Yamashita participated in the discussion.

Several interesting topics came up during the interview, and we’re excited to share a few excerpts with you all. The three team members spoke about how the idea for costumes came together, the different cursors (including some abandoned, an yet strange ideas), and a message for fans regarding the series’ future.

Head past the break for our complete translation.

Splatoon’s latest Splatfest was held in North America and Japan this weekend. Both competitions are now over, and the results are in.

In North America, the battle was pirates against ninjas. The former team ended up victorious thanks to a larger percentage of wins. Ultimately, despite a much higher popularity edge for ninjas, pirates prevailed with a total of 382 points.

Love and money was the topic for Japan. Popularity and wins were close for both sides, but love prevailed with 353 points.

Some Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash players may find that the game is a bit limited in terms of content. It doesn’t sound like there’s much there in the way of modes, which also extends to online play.

This is a bit bizarre, but Ultra Smash lacks support for lobbies or communities. Essentially, that will take it tough for players to connect with friends online. The only modes available for Internet play include Single and Doubles.

Both of these feature Relaxed and Serious options. For the latter, it’s possible to play ranked battles and grow your standing among other players worldwide. Doubles lets players team up with another person locally or with an amiibo. It’s also worth mentioning that you can’t control the length of the match unlike local multiplayer. However, players can choose for a tiebreaker or a two-game, one-set match.

The image above is a look at Dark Mewtwo, who was just added to the arcade version via a surprise update. He’s an exclusive boss in the fighting game – for now anyway. In any case, get a look at Dark Mewtwo below.

SEGA has once again commented on the Sonic franchise, plus what fans can expect in the future.

Chris Olson, SEGA of America’s chief operating officer, highlighted two key points while speaking with Polygon. He pointed to “a greater focus on quality” as well as interest in appealing to new and old fans. Additionally, SEGA isn’t looking to rush Sonic titles out the door.

Olson’s comments in full:

“(SEGA) wants to bring Sonic to where gamers are. …there’s still a very large-sized audience with old-school Sonic fans who grew up with the Genesis. We have an obligation to the fans of Sonic and the consumer.”

“The business is always a conflict of weighing bringing a title to a market and making the yearly plan versus maybe waiting and bringing something else. You can see that on the mobile side of things. In the earlier day of mobile development, there was a tendency to bring things out immediately. Those days are … gone. Consumer expectations have been raised.”

“Video game development is a pretty chaotic thing, and it’s important not to rush things, because we want to be sure we’re bring out the most polished thing. When we look at bringing Sonic to modern-day gamers, we … obviously want to appeal to as many people as possible but still focus on what it means to be Sonic and a Sonic game. Maybe that might lose some fans along the road, but we’re picking up new fans that will hopefully grow with us as Sonic grows.”

Olson also said SEGA will continue to “[evaluate] different ways to bring cool experiences” based on Sonic, it will do so with an increased emphasis on combining “cool” with “quality.”
