Tantalus’ new Wii U game is a port “for an absolute top notch publisher”, not a mature game
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U | 11 Comments
The existence of a new “AAA” title from Tantalus Media, seemingly for Wii U, was outed over the weekend. Director of development Joss Ellis has since provided a few hints as to what the company will be working on.
Ellis teased that the game in question is a port, “but more of a complete rework for the Wii U” – think Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It’s also “for an absolute top notch publisher” and won’t be a mature/hardcore experience.
According to Ellis:
It is a ‘port’ but more of a complete rework for the Wii U: a bit like the work we did on Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut.
I can’t say what the title is but it is very exciting and is for an absolute top notch publisher.
This game will be credited Tantalus … it’s not an MA / 18 or ‘hard core’ game which ME-3 and DX:HR are.

Nintendo paying share of 3DS sales to Tomita Technologies after losing lawsuit
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News | 9 Comments
Going forward and valid through the system’s entire lifespan, Nintendo will be forced to pay Tomita Technologies 1.82 percent of the wholesale price on every 3DS sold. That’s because a US judge ruled last month that Nintendo had infringed on company’s camera tech after using it without permission. Nintendo could end up paying Tomita $3 for every 3DS moved on the market.

Shin’en said to be revealing another new Wii U game within next few weeks
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U eShop | 1 Comment
Shin’en is busy working on FAST Racing Neo for the Wii U eShop. Additionally, the studio has a second new project that will be announced in the very near future.
Art director Martin Sauter said on his website that the mysterious game “should get revealed in the next few weeks”. No further information was provided.
Sauter also left the following tease about FAST Racing Neo:
I can’t post too many information at the moment, but I can cconfirm, that this will not be a simple port or remake of the Wii version. It will be a standalone, full new product and we try it to create the most exciting eShop game in 2014.
Thanks to WALEED for the tip.

Nintendo pulls the plug on NES Remix Miiverse contest due to exploit
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Wii U eShop | 1 Comment
Nintendo kicked off a worldwide contest for NES Remix on Miiverse a couple of weeks ago that had players trying to complete a stage as fast as possible. However, an exploit was discovered which allowed users to unfairly manipulate their times. This has resulted in Nintendo cancelling the contest outright.
Director Koichi Hayashida wrote in a Miiverse post:
Hello Everyone. Thank you very much for participating in this event. Unfortunately, we confirmed that there is a way to exploit the challenge to achieve a faster time. In the interest of being as fair as possible, we decided to terminate the event without recognizing the fastest time. We know that you dedicated a lot of time and effort towards achieving your fastest time possible. We sincerely apologize for this matter, particularly because the vast majority of people played fairly. We appreciate your understanding. Thank you.
For those wondering, the exploit apparently lets players cheat the clock by repeatedly pausing the game.

Microsoft Studios’ Phil Spencer praises Nintendo
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Microsoft’s Phil Spencer sounded off positively about Nintendo while speaking with OXM.
Spencer was asked by the magazine what he’s learned from the Big N as well as Sony in its latest issue. Regarding Nintendo, the Microsoft Studios corporate vice-president praised Nintendo’s development teams and strong stable of franchises.
He said:
“Nintendo, I think – and there’s some argument about this – that their first-party is such an amazing asset. Their first party studios and IP can lead what they do as a company and the platforms are almost in service to the IP – not in a bad way.
“They have such iconic stories and this will seem somewhat random, but when we go back and do something like Killer Instinct, a little bit of the history of your franchise can actually be important part of people feeling connected. Obviously the history of Killer Instinct isn’t a history on Xbox, but it’s Rare’s history and I think the reaction when we announced it on-stage at E3 showed that playing to the people’s heart, I think Nintendo does that as well as anybody in terms of hitting the franchises and having huge success with them.”
