With the launch of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes in the west, series producer Eiji Aonuma and Shikata took to Miiverse and talked a bit more about the game.

First, here’s some opening comments from Aonuma:

We next have comments from Shikata, who explains why the game features three players instead of four:

7th Dragon III Code: VFD made its debut in Japan on October 15. Up through October 18, Media Create reported that the game sold 75,477. Further information about the game’s performance has since been published.

Media Create notes that 7th Dragon III sold through 77.05 percent of its initial shipment. To compare, 7th Dragon 2020-II – the latest entry in the series for PSP – moved 73,697 copies in its first week. That title sold through 68.93 percent of its initial shipment. 7th Dragon III on 3DS did actually see higher pre-orders than its predecessor.

The 7th Dragon series has appeared on a few platforms over the years – DS, PSP, and 3DS. Still, Media Create points out that fans have continued to remain interested in the series.

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has commented a bit more on the new entry in the series for Wii U.

Speaking with IGN, he commented about the game’s open world. Aonuma acknowledged that some fans were hoping that Skyward Sword had a bigger open world, and for this title, he wants to “put a surprise, or kind of a twist, on my view of an open world game.”

He said:

“We actually had some feedback from Skyward Sword, where people were saying, ‘This is not exactly the Zelda game I was looking for, I was looking for a bigger open world.’ Unfortunately, I can’t go into details but I’m hoping to put a surprise, or kind of a twist, on my view of an open world game. I hope that you’ll look forward to it.”

Aonuma also talked about fan feedback. Though the development team reads a lot of what fans think about the series, not all of their feedback will make it into future Zelda titles.

“If we put all the feedback the fans write directly into the game, there won’t be an element of surprise. If there’s a comment and they’re asking for certain element, I would think, ‘Oh, why not interpret this in a different way that you wouldn’t expect?’ That’s how we create a new element in a Zelda game. I always want to implement something new and surprising into every game.“

Today is a pretty important day for Nintendo Everything. That’s right – it’s our eighth anniversary!

I’ve been saying this for the past couple of years, but it boggles my mind that I’m still doing this. Eight years is a long time. Actually, that’s about a third of my life.

As corny as it sounds, Nintendo Everything is really much more than a job to me. I’ve literally poured every morsel of energy I have into the site in hopes of making it the best it can be. That usually means very little sleep, continuing work when I’m deathly ill (I still remember covering the 2011 3DS conference before going to the hospital a couple of days later – that was fun), and putting all free time to the side.

I have a huge love for Nintendo, and that’s why it’s great that I can deliver updates about the company to you all each day. Even though there have been struggles along the way (many of which I tend to keep quiet so that we can focus on what’s happening in the world of Nintendo), knowing that I’m sharing my passion with people who take interest in what the site provides make it all the more enjoyable. So thank you to everyone who has stopped by Nintendo Everything over for the years – be it for eight years or one day. I truly appreciate every single one of you. I hope I can keep this going as long as I can.

A little heads up for everyone! If you see anything strange happening on the site or any downtime throughout the day, know that it’s intentional. Nintendo Everything will be going a bit of a metamorphosis. Once finished, the site will hopefully turn into a beautiful butterfly!

In 1996, Virgin Interactive Entertainment revealed Freak Boy for the N64. The game would have featured “three-dimensional graphics, addicting play mechanics and cutting-edge technology that uses morphing special effects,” according to the original announcement.

Freak Boy never actually made it to market. It did appear at E3 1996, but the game ended up seeing cancellation soon after. Virgin Interactive Entertainment intended to have Freak Boy ready for early 1997.

Freak Boy is back in the news roughly two decades later, as an Unseen64 reader found and purchased an early prototype of the project from a flea market. You can find several clips below.

A few days ago, Nintendo of America presented fans with a series of possible questions on Twitter that could be submitted to the developers of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. The first response has now come in, which deals with the game’s placement in the series timeline. Take a look at the image above for the official response.
