Famitsu published its full interview with the developers behind Splatoon on its website today. Producer Hisashi Nogami, director Yusuke Amano, and co-director Tsubasa Sakaguchi participated in the discussion.

Siliconera translated some excerpts from the interview. You can find a summary of what was shared below.

“Many staff members that have worked on Wii U launch titles are working on this game, so now that we have a grasp of the Wii U’s functions, it started out with discussions about wanting to make something new with what we already know. There were many plans, but the one that stayed until the end was Splatoon.”

– Nogami says that it was just around the time Sakaguchi finished working on Nintendo Land, and Amano with New Super Mario Bros. 2, that Splatoon’s plans began
– Wasn’t always about squid characters
– Originally had tofu-like square characters
– Eventually chose to make it a competitive 4-on-4 game that required spraying the environment with ink

A New 3DS cover plate based on Xenoblade is coming to Japan. The one pictured above will be available on April 2, with pricing set at 2,000 yen. We’ll let you know if Nintendo makes a similar announcement for Europe.

Gemology is heading to the Wii U eShop in April, BNC Design Studios has announced. A teaser for the game can be found above. Not much is shown, though BNC Design Studios says this was “very intentional.” The developer intends to share steady information about Gemology “and its intense two year development” over the next couple of months.

UCraft could be hitting the Wii U eShop in beta form during the summer, albeit in beta form. The game’s developer shared an update today noting that the beta is currently targeted for July.

You’ll need to fork over $19.99 for the beta. However, by doing so, you’ll gain access to the full game upon release.

Nexis calls UCraft “one of the most amazing things” the studio has created thus far.

Nintendo is set to restock some amiibo in Australia and New Zealand over the next few months.

In a message posted to the company’s website, it’s stated that there will be “limited quantities of some amiibo figures”, though there will be “some figures sourced from other regions that will feature non-AU/NZ packaging”.

You can find the full notice from Nintendo below.

Have you pre-ordered an Ike or King Dedede amiibo at GameStop? Then you’ll probably be interested in hearing the latest update from the retailer, via a memo obtained by Destructoid.

Those who reserved Ike before December 27 should have their orders fulfilled within the next week or so. However, all reservations that came after won’t be completed until spring. Ike is also being limited to one per household.

The situation is similar with King Dedede. If you got your pre-order in before December 31, expect the figure to arrive soon. Unfortunately, all other orders won’t be fulfilled until summer.

Mega Man and Sonic are safe at least. GameStop says that these two figures will reach all consumers in one wave, unlike Ike and King Dedede.

Affordable Space Adventures was announced as a Wii U exclusive last year. That being said, it sounds like a 3DS version isn’t completely out of the question.

In a Reddit AMA conducted today with the game’s developers, it was revealed that the team has “been looking into” a potential 3DS version. Note that the Wii U version is still being prioritized.

Anchel Labena, who is handling PR for Affordable Space Adventures, stated:

Actually, we’ve been looking into it and we’re in talks to see what we can do. There’s nothing we can announce yet, but we’re obviously prioritizing releasing a great Wii U game first

Labena also touched on Affordable Space Adventures’ multiplayer:

Multiplayer takes tasks that would otherwise be handled by a single player and shares them with the rest of the players.

Think of it as flying a ship solo or coordinating with a crew.

So whereas in single player one person will control all the aspects of the ship from the Gamepad, in multiplayer one will be the Navigator, piloting the ship around with a Wii remote or Pro Controller, another can be the Engineer, changing the different systems via the Gamepad touchscreen, and a third is the Science Officer, scanning alien artifacts and focusing the ship’s flashlight.

But of course, it could also just be two players and these tasks get arranged differently.

KnapNok designer Lau Korsgaard noted in the same Reddit AMA that it’s possible to play one, two or three player co-op. “The experience of the three modes are quite different actually,” he said.
