Live A Live review

System: Switch
Release Date: July 22, 2022
Developer: Square Enix / Historia
Publisher: Square Enix

Back in the days of the SNES, it wasn’t uncommon for games to never see a western release, remaining land-locked to their native Japan. This was relatively common in the case of JRPGs, an arguably oversaturated genre at the time that remained relatively niche in the west. Even new installments of big flagship franchises like Square Enix’s (then Squaresoft) Final Fantasy series didn’t always make it overseas. It’s no surprise then that some of Square’s less well-known JRPGs ended up falling through the cracks, one of these being Live A Live. Live A Live was originally released in 1994 and had even been initially planned as a worldwide release before underwhelming sales prospects in Japan caused those localization plans to be scrapped. But with the game now receiving an unexpected remake, it’s gotten a new lease on life and a long overdue international release, letting everyone experience this presumed classic. That being said, how well does the game truly hold up today? And were the improvements made to this remake enough to bring it up to a more modern standard?

Nintendo has continued to to drip-feed exciting new announcements over the past few weeks, and that trend continues with the recent reveal of Wave 2 of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s DLC courses. Join Nick, Nicolas and Luiz as they discuss all the exciting throwback tracks arriving in the game in only a few days, and whether or not all these Mario Kart Tour corses being ported over is a good thing. Then, stick around for our impressions of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, some exciting new ports coming to Switch from publisher Annapurna Interactive, and more!

xenoblade chronicles 3 is here

After a not so long wait since its announcement, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has arrived. Personally speaking, this is a very special game to me as it’s the third entry in what is probably my favorite franchise from Nintendo.

It’s a bit unusual for me to publish those “first impressions” videos, but I really felt like there’s a lot to talk about the initial hours of this game. So in the video below, you’ll find a huge Xenoblade fan talking about how good Xenoblade Chronicles 3 has been so far. Feel free to share your own experience with the game as well.

Disney Speedstorm interview Gameloft

Another game is joining the lineup of kart racers on Switch with Disney Speedstorm, which launches this summer. To learn more about it, we caught up with Gameloft Barcelona game manager Aska Suzuki.

During our chat, we spoke about topics such as how the project came to be in the first place, what to expect with support after launch, and more. You can read our full discussion below.

best switch ports

Switch has been around for over five years, and we felt now was the best time to share what we feel are the best ports on the console.

There is a common perception regarding Switch (and hybrid consoles in general), that portability requires a sacrifice in playability. Basically, games must play and look worse in order to be in a compact form. While this may be true for some games, developers have proved that this is not always the case.

There are many games that have been ported from other more powerful consoles to Switch that show minimal to no downgrades in their gameplay experiences and graphics. These games range from huge open worlds to quick and snappy shooters, and regardless of playing handheld or docked, they still play perfectly.

Luckily for Switch owners, there are many games that have been ported this well, and a list of all of them could be very long. We’ve narrowed down the top ten Switch ports based on how well the games were reviewed (no one wants to hear about an amazing port of a bad game), and how well the gameplay and graphics were preserved. We have also selected games that were ported from the current generation at the time, as it’s slightly less impressive that a PS3 / Xbox 360 title can run on a handheld.

Without further ado, here are the 10 best Nintendo Switch ports.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 impressions

After the Live A Live remake made it to Switch last week, the console just received another RPG in the form of Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Although it’s only been about a day since its official release, it’s likely that many of you have started up the game already.

If you’ve had a chance to try out Xenoblade Chronicles 3, how are you feeling about it so far? If you’ve played other games in the series, how do you feel this new entry compares based on what you’ve experienced? Let us know in the comments below.

F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch review

System: Switch
Release Date: July 12, 2022
Developer: TiGames
Publisher: Astrolabe Games

Metroidvania games have seen a small surge since the release of Metroid Dread. With no small sampling of offerings, F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch arrives at a great time in the Switch’s life cycle – a point where the library of most players has been filled out with first-party titles and are itching for something new before the next big game drops. While the game has been out on other platforms since last year (with great ratings, even!) how does the Switch version compare?

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 review

System: Switch
Release Date: July 28, 2022
Developer: Inti Creates
Publisher: Inti Creates

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost ten years since Azure Striker Gunvolt debuted on 3DS, having spawned sequels and spinoffs since then. All of these games expanded the universe and repertoire of Inti Creates’ expertise in 2D platforming that rightfully feels like a modern spiritual successor and take on the Mega Man formula. Now with Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, the studio has bumped production up tenfold and created arguably the best in the series yet, with tons of optimization, upgrades, and options to make it the most approachable and enjoyable game so far.

In this week’s episode of Nintendo Everything refresh, join Luiz, Nicolas and Dennis as they discuss the two new characters that just arrived Mario Strikers: Battle League, including a highly-requested favorite. Then stick around for conversation surrounding the impending heat-death of the 3DS and Wii U eShops, recent leaks and rumors surrounding some high-profile Nintendo games (Pokemon, Xenoblade), and much more!
