Fire Emblem Fates sold over 300,000 copies between all versions during its launch weekend, Nintendo has announced. It’s now the fastest-selling game in the history of the franchise in the United States.

Fire Emblem Fates managed to sell more than five times as many units as Fire Emblem Awakening. That game was the previous record holder in the United States during its first three days of availability.

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright was the top seller between both versions, though Conquest was “close behind.”

Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive VP of sales and marketing, said of today’s news:

“Both fans and critics are falling for Fire Emblem Fates, and the early sales numbers prove the game’s undeniable appeal. This strong momentum for Nintendo 3DS is only the beginning, as many more high-quality exclusive games are set to launch for the hand-held system over the next few months.”

Update: Small extra tidbit, but today’s PR for the Pokemon Photo Booth app says the Pokemon Direct will have “big news.”

Today, Nintendo announced that a special Pokemon Direct will air this Friday. The company will have news about “the latest on Pokemon games.”

It’ll be streamed at the following times:

– 7 AM PT
– 10 AM ET
– 3 PM in the UK
– 4 PM in Europe

We’ll have a live stream for the Pokemon Direct before it begins – possibly a live blog as well. Note that the presentation will only last five minutes.

Super Mario Maker is receiving yet another new costume. Players can soon get their hands on Barbara the Bat from the Band Brothers series.

The new Event Course has not actually gone live just yet, but it should be up Thursday evening (early Friday morning in Europe). You’ll be able to nab the costume after completing the level. For now, watch the official video for Barbara the Bat below.

Today, Nnooo announced plans to localize The Legend of Kusakarai for western markets. Librage originally released the game in Japan last May.

For those who haven’t heard of The Legend of Kusakarai, here’s an overview:

You know what’s the worst thing ever? Fighting slimes and dragons knee deep in grass and weeds.

Well if Kusakari has anything to do with it it wont be that way for long. Get your scythe sharpened and jump in to this quirky Japanese adventure puzzle game. Slice through over 50 levels of grass filled action and help those heroes save the kingdom, in battle grounds fit to have a picnic on!

The Scythe:

Rush from blade to blade and then getting hacking! As you slice away at grass your Scythe will become sharper and start to level up. The higher the level the bigger are you can cut using your special ability. Watch out tho’ Kusakari gets pretty ill if he’s not cutting that grass so make sure you eat up those odd blue bits of grass for a health boost (I’m sure there is nothing odd about eating glowing blue grass right!?) then rush off to the next patch!

And the original Japanese trailer:

A western release date for The Legend of Kusakarai has not yet been confirmed.

We now have a proper look at the Wolf Link amiibo costume in Super Mario Maker, which was outed earlier today. Take a look at a video showing the outfit below.

Moon Studios, developer of the critically-acclaimed Ori and the Blind Forest, appears to have at least some interest in working with NX. The problem? The team has had trouble securing a dev kit.

Moon Studios’ Thomas Mahler sounded off on the situation in a NeoGAF post. His disappointment isn’t entirely directed at Nintendo though, as he says “every hardware manufacturer is treating their devkits and their unreleased consoles like they’re the second coming”.

Mahler’s words in full:

“This is actually THE singlest most annoying thing for every dev out there. We also talked to Nintendo and got absolutely nothing – I’ll never understand that. And just to be clear, it’s not just Nintendo, every hardware manufacturer is treating their devkits and their unreleased consoles like they’re the second coming and are insanely secretive about it to a stupid degree in todays time. It’s not even that the hardware isn’t finished (duh), but you could at least give me the goddamn specs, so we’d know what to build s*** for!

What’s needed to sell hardware is goddamn good software. With Nintendo not having any devkits out there at this point and probably even wanting to sell it in 2016, I can already guarantee that they’ll just not have any software support, since nobody can just jumble games together in less than a year. I mean, you can, but it’ll be garbage.

The same is true for Engine Support – Get Unity and Epic to support these consoles WAAAAY ahead of release. By the time the console launches, it should be EASY for developers to develop games for these systems, things shouldn’t just only start at this point. I want the goddamn devkits or at least proper hardware specs ideally 2 years before release – Keep all the developers updated, start a forum where devs can chat and all figure out the problem everyone’s having, instead of everyone just having to deal with it. None of that’s happening anywhere and it’s just braindamaged.”

The Wolf Link amiibo will have a unique function in Super Mario Maker. Like many other figures, it can be used in the game to unlock a special outfit. You can tap the Wolf Link to the GamePad to nab a Wolf Link costume.

Nintendo has just announced that Yo-Kai Watch will be released in Europe on April 29th. With this, the game will finally be available in all regions.

If you’re in Europe and just can’t wait two more months, you can actually just import the game from Australia. Yo-Kai Watch was released there last year and Europe and Australia are part of the same region as far as games are concerned, so the 3DS’ region lock won’t affect it.
