Wolfenstein II

Panic Button has quickly become an expert when it comes to Switch ports. Having worked on the Switch versions of Bethesda’s Doom and Wolfenstein II as well as Rocket League, the studio knows how to get demanding titles up-and-running on the system.

Speaking with MCV, Panic Button boss Adam Creighton spoke about the window between a game’s initial release date and the Switch release. He says the window is “shrinking all the time for those publishers and developers who are planning on Switch at the outset.”

Niantic has revealed brand new functionality coming to Pokemon GO. New features involving friends, gifting, and trading are all on the way.

Here’s the full rundown from Niantic:

System: Switch
Release date: June 21, 2018

Music does a lot for the soul, whether you’re an avid listener of a multitude of genres or a musician yourself, and that’s why I’ve always felt that rhythm games were one of the best places to escape reality. While we’ve seen the rhythm genre take on multiple forms and have its highs and lows, at the end of the day it’s the games that focus on the music and accessibility more than anything else that shine the most and remain consistent in relevancy and lifespan. With MUSYNX’s eclectic library of music and ease of access for beginners and veterans alike, I think we can safely add it to a promising new wave of rhythm games looking to blend forward-thinking ideas with an extremely clean interface where it’s just you and the music.

Ninjala

GungHo Online Entertainment announced its brand new Switch game Ninjala at E3 this week. Continue on below for some of the first off-screen footage.

Just like that, another E3 is in the books. After a week of jam-packed news, trailers, and more, the expo has drawn to a close.

There was plenty to look at throughout the week, but the main event for us was on Tuesday with the Nintendo Direct. Smash Bros. Ultimate had its expected blowout, but a few other games were shown as well. Daemon X Machina and Super Mario Party were announced, Fire Emblem: Three Houses was unveiled, the new Xenoblade Chronicles 2 story content was shown, and a few leaked games were confirmed – Fortnite, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Overcooked 2. There were a few other goodies spread out throughout the week including the release of the latest Xenoblade Chronicles 2 DLC and Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion, Arcade Archives Donkey Kong, and a meaty Octopath Traveler demo.

There were some notable omissions. Yoshi for Switch wasn’t present, and has been pushed back to 2019. Metroid Prime 4 was also nowhere to be seen, though that might not be too surprising considering we only saw a logo last year. Nintendo also had nothing to say about 3DS at all – including during the Treehouse streams – so we’ll have to wait a bit longer for new looks at WarioWare Gold, Luigi’s Mansion, and Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story + Bowser Jr’s Journey.

Since E3 has wrapped up, how is everyone feeling about Nintendo’s presence? Were you pleased with what was shown, or were you left wanting more? What are your thoughts on Smash Bros. Ultimate and Ridley’s inclusion? Let us know in the comments below.

Nintendo Switch Online

Ever since the Wii era, Nintendo has offered classic games through the Virtual Console. Yet on Switch, the Virtual Console is dead as we know it. Nintendo still intends to have classics ready through Nintendo Switch Online, but at least initially, we’ll only be seeing NES games – albeit with extra bells and whistles like online features.

In an interview with IGN at E3, Nintendo of America president spoke about how Nintendo sees Nintendo Switch Online as somewhat of a Virtual Console successor. The company will make a slate of classics available, with the lineup expanding over time.

At E3 this week, Forbes caught up with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime for a lengthy chat. The two sides spoke about Nintendo Labo, Switch’s lifespan, third-parties, mobile, and collaborations.

We have these excerpts from the interview below. You can read the full discussion here.

Hisashi Nogami has made a name for himself in recent years for his work as producer of Splatoon 1 and 2. However, he has actually been with the company since 1994. The first project he worked on? Yoshi’s Island. Nogami was responsible for character and background designs.

Yoshi’s Island ended up having a distinct look, especially for the time when it originally released. Nogami spoke with Kotaku about the game’s style, stating:

Update: Bumped to the top. Added in the patch notes below.

Original: The next big update for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has arrived. Version 1.5.0 is live, along with the Challenge Battle Mode for Expansion Pass owners.

Challenge Battle Mode “gives players many chances to test their skills, plenty of loot to earn, and some minor story elements that show the characters in a new light”. You’ll be taking on hordes of enemies in Waves to complete each challenge. Additionally, Shulk and Fiora from the first Xenoblade Chronicles join the fight as Blades.

We’ll bring you the full patch notes for today’s update as soon as we have them.
