Today’s Monster Hunter Direct will kicks off at 4 AM PT / 7 AM ET / 12 PM in the UK / 1 PM in Europe. We’ve embedded the live stream below, and it should begin in about an hour. When any major news is shared, we’ll have it right here on the site.

The official Japanese Twitter account has accidentally revealed the final starter evolutions of Pokemon Sun & Moon via the covers of some TCG starter decks. While these evolutions have been known for months thanks to leaks and were confirmed via datamining the recent demo, this is their first official acknowledgment. However, it seems like this was not planned – the tweet was deleted about 30 minutes after it was posted.  Rowlet’s final evolution is known as Junaiba in Japan, Litten’s is Gaogaen and Popplio’s is Ashirenu. Head past the break for the image.

Finally, we will discuss our new gaming platform, Nintendo Switch. We had previously revealed that we have a new game system in development under the codname NX, and we have now announced that it will be released under the official name Nintendo Switch. We recently released a short video through our website showing off some of the new experiences made possible by Nintendo Switch. Please take a look.

We have received a fantastic response from all over the world to the Nintendo Switch reveal video presented above. We are not able to share each qualitative comment and response from consumers today. However, one example is the number of views we have received on our YouTube accounts. The total number of views just on our official YouTube Channels has already reached 23 million views worldwide and still growing. The reaction from our YouTube viewers
has been overwhelmingly positive. We are very confident that a lot of consumers around the world have become interested in Nintendo Switch.

We released the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Special Demo Version starting on October 18th. Although the demo version only released last week, it has already passed 3.5 million downloads, the fastest start for any demo in the history of the Nintendo 3DS system. This point also shows the breadth of the audience for these games.

Switch, Nintendo’s next major platform, is just on the horizon. The system is due out in less than half a year. With Switch though, Nintendo isn’t pulling all of its eggs in one basket – at least not yet.

President Tatsumi Kimishima mentioned during a press conference today that Switch and 3DS are entirely different. More importantly though, he said Nintendo will continue to develop software for 3DS.

Beginning next year, Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World, Mario Sports Superstars, Ever Oasis, Pikmin, and the localized version of Dragon Quest VIII will head to 3DS. It’s unclear what Nintendo has in store beyond this. We also don’t know how long 3DS development will continue.

Switch is just a few months away from launching around the world. Thankfully, before then, it sounds like Nintendo will be offering consumers some hands-on time with the system. President Tatsumi Kimishima suggested during a press conference today that there will be some occasions in which consumers will be able to test play Switch prior to release.

Separately from that, Kimishima said he’s confident that after Switch’s full unveiling, people will understand that it would be different from 3DS.

Also, as mentioned earlier today, Switch won’t be sold at a loss though Nintendo will be listening to what consumers feel is an appropriate price for the platform.
