In this week’s issue of Famitsu, Seiken Densetsu Collection producer Masaru Oyamada is interviewed. Oyamada spoke about why the package was brought to Switch and also teased new developments for the series’ 25th anniversary.

Below are several tidbits from the interview, as translated by Gematsu:

  • (Regarding the release of Seiken Densetsu Collection🙂 When I thought that I wanted to release a packaged edition that compiles the first three Seiken Densetsu games, Nintendo Switch, the most suitable hardware, was announced. The platform makes it easy for users to enjoy multiplayer.
  • Today’s elementary school students only know the latest high-definition graphic titles. I want parents and children to enjoy the classic Seiksen Densetsu titles together.
  • The point I want you to pay attention to is the transition and connection of the series. I want you to become acquainted with these amazing games released over 20 years ago.
  • The tricks from the original versions of the games were left almost as is.
  • (Regarding a new title:) Of course, I would like to announce new developments on the series’ 25th anniversary.
  • It’s still undecided, but there may be some sort of movement when playing Seiken Densetsu Collection.
  • I want to develop the series more and more from here on. Please support us.

We recently heard that Nintendo is looking to increase production of Switch due to high demand. The Wall Street Journal has backed up the earlier report, and now claims that the big N is trying to ship out close to 20 million units by March 2018.

There is a significant problem getting in Nintendo’s way though. The Wall Street Journal writes that the industry is facing “an industrywide capacity shortage for components used in smartphones, computer servers and other digital devices.” This includes “NAND flash-memory chips that store data, liquid-crystal displays and [Linear Resonant Actuators] the tiny motors” used for Switch’s HD Rumble feature.

The Wall Street Journal further adds the following:

Over the past few days, Nintendo has been making it clear that the ARMS Global Testpunch will feature fresh elements this weekend. Certain modes are being swapped out, such as Hoops for V-Ball.

Nintendo also said today that the ARMS Global Testpunch will feature a new stage when it returns this weekend. Min Min’s signature level, the Ramen Bowl, will be added in.

We’ll continue to inform you about other ARMS Global Testpunch changes as Nintendo shares more details.

Rumors about the possibility of Pokken Tournament on Switch have begun due to a Japanese retailer listing. Sinobi listed a new arcade stick for the console, which mentioned that it can be used in fighting games such as Pokken. It has since been removed.

It goes without saying that this should not be treated of any sort of confirmation that Pokken Tournament is coming to Switch. That being said, the news is very interesting and gives some hope about a potential port or new Pokken title on the system.

Famitsu was able to interview PlatinumGames’ Atsushi Inaba at BitSummit last week. Naturally, Switch came up during the discussion.

Inaba praised Switch’s easy-to-play-anywhere aspect. Also, he thinks you can play Switch game both casually or seriously and the platform accepts heavy AAA titles or even very casual games made of just small ideas. Therefore Switch fits well with indie scene and also with the coming video game scene.

Inaba also believes that t synergy between PlatinumGames and Switch is good. He was able to reconfirm a project for Switch developed by PlatinumGames, which he thinks will be “interesting” or “fun”.
