Luigi’s Mansion 3 is getting DLC, but probably not in the way most would have expected. Two multiplayer parts are planned – the first by the end of April and the second by the end of July. This is somewhat surprising, as Luigi’s Mansion 3 is mainly looked upon fondly for its single-player experience.
In an interview with Kotaku, a few developrers weighed in on why Luigi’s Mansion 3 won’t be seeing any single-player DLC. Creative director Bryce Holliday explained:

It’s the last episode of NEP of the decade! Join Oni Dino and Galen as they give their personal awards across the nightmare-scape that is gaming in 2019. Biggest surprise, biggest embarrassment/controversy, best new character, and so much more. The gang employs a process of elimination that requires bargains, arguments, concessions and a whole lot of passive aggressive love. What will win? How will we compromise? Who won’t make it out alive?

Luigi’s Mansion 3 is selling pretty well in the UK – perhaps better than one would expect. In the previous week, sales were actually up 49 percent.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield have been top sellers on Switch during the holiday season. However, Luigi’s Mansion 3 has actually sold more copies than a number of other top titles, including New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. GamesIndustry also reports that Luigi’s Mansion 3 “has far exceeded previous games in the franchise”.

Hello my 8-bit and 16-bit beauties. This week on NEP, we accidentally pitch our ideas for the next Luigi’s Mansion game (and the next) in a fervor of excitement. Then, Oni Dino is excited about Heroland while Galen critiques Bioware’s Anthem. Oni Dino goes on to talk his love for Breath of Fire II and Galen muses on the “Zelda II Maker” update we received in Super Mario Maker 2, and what Maker could be next. We then read some listener mail leading into next week’s The Game Awards, a New Year Nintendo Direct and Super Mario Sunshine… 2?
