Nintendo eShop

Wii U is in an interesting position right now. Although Switch is the hot new thing, Nintendo’s older console still exists, and games continue to come out for the old console each week via the eShop. Just a couple of days ago for example, The Girl and the Robot finally hit Wii U after a nearly four-year wait.

Throughout Wii U’s lifespan, many indie games were announced for the platform. Many came out, but plenty never actually made it to the console. Since Wii U is starting to wind down at this point, we’ve attempted to investigate as many noteworthy, unreleased indie titles as possible to see if they’re still planned.

Our full findings are included below. Note that we’ve left out certain games that were reconfirmed for Wii U within the past few months, such as Hive Jump, Soul Saga, and Lobodestroyo.

Capcom has released the first trailer for Monster Hunter XX on Switch. We’ve gone ahead and posted it below.

Capcom also shared the first details about Monster Hunter XX on Switch today. Here’s what we know as of now:

– 1080p docked, 720 portable
– Control scheme is refined to fit well with Switch in both TV and portable mode
– Local and online 4-player multiplayer
– You also can play it together with 3DS if you use internet
– You can bring back Switch save data to 3DS too
– You can bring almost all save data from X to Switch’s XX
– And you can share save data of XX in between 3DS and Switch
– Switch hardware bundle
– Not only the dock, but the console itself has a unique design (to be shown later)
– Refined UI

All of this information was shared at the Monster Hunter Championship 2017 event held in Japan today. As noted in our last post, the game launches on August 25. No word yet on a western release at this time, but Switch is region free.

Capcom announced Monster Hunter XX for Switch out of nowhere last night. At the Monster Hunter Championship 2017 event today, the company announced that it’ll be releasing on August 25.

The retail version will cost 5,800. Digitally, it’ll be a bit less at 5,546 yen.

Sonic Mania appears to have a final release date. The game now has an official page on Steam, which shows a release date of August 15. SEGA has not yet officially announced this date so the news may very well have been uncovered early.

Sonic Mania was originally planned for release in Spring 2017. SEGA ended up delaying the game to an unspecified period during the summer. With E3 right around the corner, we should be hearing about the new August 15 date soon.

Monster Hunter XX is coming to Switch, Capcom has announced.

More details about this version of the game will be shared at the Monster Hunter Championship 2017 on Saturday. This will include a Japanese release date for the game.

For the time being, access a teaser site for the Switch version of Monster Hunter XX here.

Monster Hunter XX is an expanded version of Monster Hunter Generations. Generations came out in the west on 3DS last year. In Japan, Capcom released Monster Hunter XX on the same portable back in March.

EA won’t have a traditional press conference at E3 this year. That’s in large part because the publisher is hosting its own event dedicated for fans, known as EA Play 2017.

The full lineup for EA Play 2017 was announced today. Interestingly, FIFA on Switch will be playable for the first time (as of now it’s not using the FIFA 18 name by the way).

EA Play 2017 will take place on the following days / times at the Hollywood Palladium:

Saturday June 10 from 4pm – 8pm
Sunday June 11 from 12pm – 6pm
Monday June 12 from 12pm – 5pm

EA Play 2017 will be fully open to the public. Free tickets can be ordered here.

Chances are nowadays that when you talk to someone about fighting games, one of the first titles to come to mind is Street Fighter. The series has spanned decades, with 2017 marking its 30th anniversary which is further celebrated with the updated release of one of the most seminal fighting games of all time, Street Fighter II. Before the imminent release of Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers on Switch, the game had already returned many times in the past. To some this may seem excessive, but for the most hardcore of Street Fighter fans, it’s a way to continually preserve the history of one of the most successful fighting game franchises of all time, as well as one of the most important titles in the series. However you look at it, Ultra Street Fighter II has a lot to love about it if you’re an avid Street Fighter fan, but may leave a lot to be desired to those looking to jump in for the first time or have casually spent time with the series over the last three decades.

The first trailer is now online for Netflix’s Castlevania animated series. On top of that, we have a release date of July 7.

Here’s the video:

The new Castlevania show follows “the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself.” According to producer Adi Shankar, it’s based on Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Shankar also previously said that it will be “very much Castlevania done in the vein of Game of Thrones” with very mature content.
