One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 Deluxe Edition, which originally came out in 2015, mashes Koei Tecmo’s Warriors series with the famous manga IP. The new Switch version will come with 42 pieces of DLC. Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon mainly a project for Game Freak’s younger staff, more veterans for Pokemon Switch
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Switch | 29 Comments
Game Freak has a delicate balance going on at the moment. The studio is currently wrapping up Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon for 3DS. But as we found out at E3, Game Freak is also shifting towards Switch with its very first Switch project.
On the bright side, handling two big projects doesn’t seem to be an issue for the company. In an interview with GameSpot, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon producer Shigeru Ohmori noted how the latest 3DS games can be thought of “mainly as a project for our younger staff to work on and grow and develop their skills, while perhaps the more veteran, established members of the company can work on the upcoming [Switch] project.”
Ohmori explained:
Video: A look into failed Nintendo pitches including Kid Icarus from Retro Studios and Nintendo All-Stars Academy

DidYouKnowGaming? and Unseen64 published a video today investigating a number of Nintendo-related pitches. Some were previously known, while others are entirely new.
One interesting pitch is tied to Retro Studios. In mid-2007 or so, following the end of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption’s development, a very small team within the company pitched a revival of Kid Icarus. It was supposedly led by Jason Behr, a veteran designer at Retro.

Super Mario Odyssey director says there’s a purpose behind having Mario in New Donk City’s realistic environment

The very first thing we ever saw from Super Mario Odyssey was New Donk City. And it’s no ordinary city: Mario is running and jumping around with realistic people around him.
The concept of New Donk City may seem strange for a Mario title, but there was a purpose behind it. Director Kenta Motokura explained to Game Informer this month why it made sense for players to be interacting with a more realistic city.

[Let’s Talk] Any interest in Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon?
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, Let's Talk | 97 Comments
In a month from now, two new Pokemon games will be on 3DS. Of course, we’re referring to Pokemon Ultra Sun and Pokemon Ultra Moon.
From the minute these titles were announced, they underwent quite a bit of scrutiny. Fans were hoping that new Pokemon games would be announced for Switch, but instead, they were revealed for 3DS. Making matters somewhat worse is that they’re new versions of last year’s Sun/Moon. It took some time to really understand what makes Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon different from the 2016 games. It really wasn’t until the past couple of months – these last few weeks in particular – that some of the new elements have been highlighted.
So how many of you have interest in Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon (or not at all)? Have you moved on from 3DS to Switch at this point? Or do you intend to fire up the handheld next month for the new games? Let us know in the comments below.

Fire Emblem Warriors devs on characters and handling of reveals, designs, story, systems, modes
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in New Nintendo 3DS, News, Switch | 227 Comments
Leading up to the launch of Fire Emblem Warriors, Nintendo Dream published monthly interviews with the development team. In its most recent issue, the Japanese magazine had its biggest discussion yet. Producer Yosuke Hayashi and director Hiroya Usuda were brought back once again in addition to artist Yuta Matsunaga to talk about Fire Emblem Warriors, with the two being interviewed a few weeks before release (and just prior to the Tokyo Game Show).
Hayashi and Usuda had a ton to say about all aspects of Fire Emblem Warriors. There was more talk about certain characters in the game and the handling of their reveals (including why Azura wasn’t on the initial roster), some of the troubles encountered with designs, approach to the story (light spoilers here), gameplay systems, and different modes.
If you’re interested in Fire Emblem Warriors, you’ll likely want to read our full translation below. Just strap yourselves in, since it’s a long one.
First Switch eShop pre-load has started in Japan
Posted on 7 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch eShop | 0 comments
Switch’s firmware update last night was notable for several reasons. It added features like video capture and the ability to transfer data, but it also included support for eShop pre-loads – like what has been on Wii U and 3DS.
In Japan, the very first pre-load option has gone live. By accessing the eShop, it’s possible to purchase Snipperclips Plus ahead of time. Doing so allows you to download most of the necessary data, with only a small update needed to begin playing at launch.
Snipperclips Plus takes up 1.1GB in case you’re curious.
