Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe held a Reddit AMA yesterday. It was an opportunity for fans to ask all sorts of questions about the game, which just launched on Switch last week.

Some of the responses were pretty interesting. It sounds like a physical version might be possible on Switch, and the somewhat long save times are being looked too. Unfortunately, touchscreen support is unlikely. ConcernedApe also talked vaguely about future plans, including his next game.

Here’s a roundup of the more interesting responses:

Nintendo closed out its series of interviews for the Super NES Classic Edition with a bang. Masahiro Sakurai spoke about Kirby Super Star in depth, which is a game he directed 25 years ago.

One notable part of the interview touches on how a request from Shigeru Miyamoto led to the inclusion of two-player co-op. Sakurai also goes over how Donkey Kong Country’s visuals influenced Kirby Super Star, a planned game that was cut, and the development name.

You can read about these topics and more below from the full interview with Sakurai.

2017 is a special year for Sonic fans. Not one, but two new games are debuting this year. Sonic Mania launched in August, and we can also look forward to Sonic Forces in early November.

Even though these latest Sonic titles are totally separate games, there actually appears to be a connection between the two. Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka teased this during an interview at the Tokyo Game Show.

A new month is here! We just entered October this week, so that means we want to know what you’ve been playing.

Have you started up something entirely new for the month? With all of the new indies on Switch, have you given any of them or a try? Or maybe you’re starting up Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions, which launched yesterday. Whatever the case, let us know in the comments below!

Highlights from last week’s topic: Do you care about Switch home menu icons?

Today, Nintendo debuted a brand new trailer showing what’s to come for ARMS, as a new update is on the way. Version 3.2.0 arrives later this month.

Here’s the new video:

The big highlight of the trailer is towards the end when Nintendo shows a character who definitely looks a lot like Spring Man. What’s going on there?

After a two-year hiatus, the Nintendo World Championships are back. Nintendo will be hosting the 2017 event today, with the proceedings beginning not too long from now. The tournament should kick off at 2 PM PT / 5 PM ET / 10 PM in the UK / 11 PM in Europe.

You can watch the Nintendo World Championships as the event happens below. We’re not saying there will be any announcements (there may very well be nothing), but if anything happens to show up, we’ll have the news on the site.

Super Mario Sunshine

This month, RetroGamer sat down with Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi. The two sides didn’t really talk about Super Mario Odyssey, however. Instead, the conversation was focused on a different project from Koizumi’s past: Super Mario Sunshine.

Koizumi directed Super Mario Sunshine on the GameCube 15 years ago. Initially, the team had a very different plan in mind for the game. Rather than the strictly 3D platforming gameplay that we know of, Nintendo instead was “exploring the idea of a disaster recovery mission-style game.”

Koizumi told the magazine:

Yesterday, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle creative director Davide Soliani participated in a Reddit AMA. Fans were able to ask the developer all sorts of questions. Soliani touched on interest in making sequel, teased the upcoming DLC, confirmed that a new patch is coming this month, and more.

We’ve collected many of the relevant responses from the AMA below. You can read the full thing here.

Famitsu published a big interview with Nintendo this week about the NES Classic Edition / Famicom Mini. There was really a lot of noteworthy information shared, and we have some of the highlights.

These representatives from Nintendo were interviewed:

Kazuhiro Maruyama / Hardware development department
Takao Shimizu / Planning and development department
Kazuyoshi Nishi / Business department

Update: Nintendo released an English version of the trailer. It’s essentially the same video, just with English text and no voice-over.
