Teaser video confirms next Sonic movie is titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2

The follow-up to the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog movie now has an official name. While not much of a surprise, the upcoming film will be titled Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
A teaser announcing the title was shared today. It emphasizes that Tails will be a big part of the movie.

Gamemaster Classified, book featuring information from Howard Phillips funded on Kickstarter

Yesterday, author and game developer Matthew Taranto announced and opened and funded a Kickstarter campaign for Gamemaster Classified: Inside Stories and Secrets from Nintedo’s History. This book covers a lot of Nintendo’s history as a company from the perspective of Taranto, as well as co-authored by Howard Phillips, Nintendo of America’s 1980s spokesperson. Ben Schwartz says he hasn’t thought about taking over as Sonic for Roger Craig Smith, but is a big fan of the world and fan base

After a decade in the role, Roger Craig Smith will no longer be voicing Sonic the Hedgehog. SEGA hasn’t announced who will be taking over the role moving forward, but some fans are hoping it’ll be Ben Schwartz – who played the character in last year’s movie.
For what it’s worth, Schwartz says he hasn’t given the possibility much thought, though he’s a big fan of Sonic and the fan base. Additionally, he mentioned to ComicBook.com that “nobody’s had a conversation with me about any of that.”

Nintendo forced cancellation of near-complete GoldenEye 007 remake for Xbox 360

Over a decade ago, there was talk about GoldenEye 007 possibility coming to the Virtual Console on Wii and Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox Live Arcade. That news is now being talked about again over a decade later following a major leak. Recently, a build popped up online of Rare’s GoldenEye 007 remake for the Xbox 360, showing that the project was almost complete.
Why was the game never released despite development almost being completed? It turns out that Nintendo – who published the N64 original – blocked it in the end.

ESA reportedly pursuing digital event for E3 2021, Summer Game Fest returning

For the past couple of decades, E3 has been the biggest gaming event of the year. Publishers and developers come together to show off games with media events, playable demos, and more. But like most major events, E3 was scrapped last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The show is now hoping to make a partial return in 2021.
VGC is reporting that “the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is pushing forward with plans for a digital event this summer, but it still requires the backing of major games companies.” Although the physical event has not yet been cancelled, “it’s understood that the digital show is now the focus for E3 2021, due to ongoing restrictions around the coronavirus pandemic.”

Ambrella, developer of various Pokemon spinoffs, absorbed by Creatures

A bit of Pokemon developer news flew under the radar late last year.
Ambrella, a studio that opened its doors in 1996 and is perhaps best-known for the Pokemon Rumble games, was acquired any absorbed by Creatures. The company itself is no more.
Aside from the Pokemon Rumble titles, Ambrella worked on several other spinoffs. Hey You, Pikachu!, Pokemon Channel, Pokemon Dash, and My Pokemon Ranch were among them.
