Nippon Ichi: Switch and PS4 multiplatform development “very much a possibility”
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 24 Comments
Nippon Ichi is currently bringing Disgaea 5 Complete to Switch. However, it’s likely that the company’s support for Nintendo’s new platform won’t end there.
Famitsu recently interviewed Nippon Ichi CEO Sohei Shinkawa, and talked about all things Switch. At one point, Shinkawa mentioned that Switch and PS4 multiplatform development is “very much a possibility” going forward.
He said:
“As you’ve said, we are a software company that has grown together with PlayStation, and are well aware that a lot of our fans are on PlayStation platforms. So it is not as if we will stop developing games for PlayStation. Overseas, PlayStation 4 sales are incredibly strong and we will continue making games for the PlayStation 4 platform.
However, in Japan we can’t just ignore the move to portable gaming consoles. Our games are well suited for portable gaming, so when you think about it, it is important for PS4 and Nintendo Switch to balance each other out and do well. With that in mind, from here on multiplatform development for PS4 and Nintendo Switch is very much a possibility.”

Update: Not intentional – Nintendo says Switch was intentionally designed to take on the appearance of a dog
Posted on 8 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in News, Switch | 34 Comments
Update: Welp, the dream is dead. The Wall Street journalist reporter Takashi Mochizuki has now clarified that Koizumi merely acknowledged that the Joy-Cons look like a puppy, not that it was intentional. A direct quote probably would have helped in this situation!
Original: After Nintendo revealed Switch last year, some fans noticed that the the system takes on the appearance of a puppy. It’s particularly evident when the Joy-Cons are connected to the Charging Grip.
Amazingly, this was actually intentional. The Wall Street Journal mentioned to Nintendo’s Yoshiaki Koizumi that the Joy-Cons look like a dog, who responded by saying that he knew. Koizumi added that’s what his team was thinking when making Switch.

Yoshiaki Koizumi on the uniqueness of the Switch, Nintendo’s goals with the system, more
Posted on 8 years ago by Matt(@OnePunchMaz) in News, Switch | 14 Comments
The Wall Street Journal has conducted an interview with Yoshiaki Koizumi, the General Producer of the Nintendo Switch, at the console’s big event last weekend in Tokyo. Make sure to read the full article here; below are a few interesting excerpts:
On the difference between previous handheld devices and the Switch:
“You could go out with a hand-held game device, but you can’t play with others if they don’t have the same device. We wanted to provide people with more options to play games.”
On when he would call the Switch a success:
“I want people to share the fun of playing games not just over social media but also on street corners. When we see people playing the Switch at various places and with different styles, then we would call the Switch a success.”
On how the Switch offers a different way to play games:
“When you play cards, you look opponents in the eye to read their strategy, and that is fun. And we realized no videogame devices have been able to offer that kind of entertainment.”
