Update: A separate staffer from Castle Pixel has informed us that the 3DS confirmation “was a mistake.” However, the system is still being considered for Rex Rocket. It’s “definitely still on our list of platforms we want to hit,” according to Castle Pixel’s Robert Maher. Maher added that depending on how Rex Rocket performs on Wii U, the team is “going to push” for a 3DS version as well.

Castle Pixel confirmed Rex Rocket for the Wii U eShop last month after revealing its status as an official Wii U developer. Prior to this, we had also heard talk of a 3DS version, but there hadn’t been any mention of the platform in recent weeks.

But no need to worry – Rex Rocket is also set for the 3DS. Castle Pixel shared the news with us, stating that a release is planned sometime in the future (alongside Wii U).

Castle Pixel’s first goal is to release Rex Rocket on PC via Steam Greenlight. The studio is hoping to secure some votes from fans – you can visit the official Greenlight page here.

We’ve been starting to see more DC-based games from Warner Bros. as of late. For instance, the company put out LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and Injustice: Gods Among Us within the past year (more or less). Even the upcoming Scribblenauts Unmasked is heavily tied into the franchise.

Warner Bros. parent company Time Warner isn’t done making video games focusing on the DC universe – far from it. During a conference last week, CEO Kevin Tsujihara said:

“…but we are on track to having a great year in games and we feel very good about where that’s going. And as you said it’s being driven – the new franchises that we are going to be zoning are going to be DC franchises. We think there is big opportunities to build off of what we are doing throughout the rest of the company in games as well.”

While creating the original Zelda: Wind Waker for GameCube, Nintendo considered giving Link a certain ability. Amazingly, this was eye-beams of all things.

According to developer Satoru Takizawa, legendary designer Takashi Tezuka “said we needed to supply a reason for the eyes being so big.” But at the end of the day, Takizawa doesn’t believe that giving Link eye beams would have been realistic.

From the latest Iwata Asks:

Takizawa: Now that the eyes had gotten much larger, we wanted to make their facial expressions richer by increasing the number of patterns for the eyes and mouth. Partway through, we even talked about having beams come out of those eyes! (laughs)

Iwata: Huh? Eye-beams?!

Takizawa: (Shigeru) Miyamoto-san and (Takashi) Tezuka-san said we needed to supply a reason for the eyes being so big. I don’t think beams were really an option, though.
