Spike Chunsoft is developing a new game based on the popular manga series Made in Abyss. Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness will launch on Switch in 2022, the company announced today. Numskull Games will publish in Europe.

Epic vs. Apple document includes Samus Aran skin for Fortnite

Epic and Apple have been going head to head in court with a new case that officially started today. After Fortnite previously bypassed Apple’s payment system so that the company wouldn’t receive commission, the game was removed from the App Store. Epic was none too pleased with the move, and has regularly expressed dissatisfaction with Apple taking 30 percent of revenue earned on the digital marketplace.

The start of the lawsuit has brought about a document that reveal all sorts of information about Fortnite – including plans that were either scrapped or could be happening in the future. This includes a whole bunch of skins that have never been mentioned before.

NEO: The World Ends with You producer hopes the IP can become its own series like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts

The World Ends with You has been relatively dormant for over a decade, but Square Enix is now starting to make a bigger push with the IP. An anime based on the original game just recently started airing and a long-awaited sequel will finally launch this summer after more than a decade.

Fans will be happy to hear that the series has a bright future ahead. IGN recently asked NEO: The World Ends with You producer Tomohiko Hirano if the team hopes it can become its own series, similar to Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts. In response, Hirano said:

[Review] Deiland: Pocket Planet Edition

Summer in Mara was one of the more recent games that took me by surprise in terms of how much I enjoyed it, as I really love the sense of serenity it offers with a small but playful map that gives just enough to keep things consistently fun – especially for the explorative types. Though Chibig is no stranger to game development, it was the first of their portfolio to hit consoles, and while the Switch version had a few quirks, it still retained what was most important without having to sacrifice much outside of some visual quality. Deiland may be new to some, but the game has technically been out since Chibig brought it to mobile in 2016. Deiland: Pocket Planet Edition on Switch now marks the third time it has been released, but as someone who’s played it briefly on mobile and then on PC just before the Switch version for the purposes of this review, this would also mark the third time Deiland has simply been… Deiland, with little between releases to feel like a sizeable update or enhancement from prior SKUs.

GDC 2021 survey covers Switch developer interest, project plans, revenue earned

The annual “State of the Game Industry” GDC report was published this week, and it provides the latest insight into developers and their approach to Switch.

Overall responses are comparable to 2020. For instance, 38 percent of developers polled said they’re interested in Switch – whereas that figure was 37 percent last year. 17 percent of respondents said their current project is planned for the console – which hasn’t changed at all.

Nintendo has ensured that IP expansion won’t cut into game dev resources, president says

Nintendo president suggests the company could pursue animation beyond the Mario movie

Despite Nintendo’s wide variety of franchises, the company hasn’t done much with movies. There was the infamous 1993 Super Mario Bros. film, but that’s pretty much it.

Although it’s taken a few decades, Nintendo is finally experimenting with movies once again. An animated Mario film will debut in 2022 thanks to a collaboration with Illumination.
