Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories

This week’s North American Nintendo Downloads are as follows:

The Rhythm Heaven series has been dormant for a few years now. But if Rhythm Heaven series composer Tsunku has his way, he’d eventually get a new entry on Switch.

Tsunku said that he wants a new game on the console. Additionally, he’d like for fans to be more vocal to Nintendo about making it happen. He feels Rhythm Heaven and Switch are a good match since you can play it both alone or together with family and friends.

The last Rhythm Heaven game was Rhythm Heaven Megamix. That game came out in Japan in 2015, followed by the west in 2016.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition

Despite coming out many years later on Switch, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has still managed to sell a significant amount of copies on the platform. In 2019, the open world RPG shifted around 700,000 copies on Nintendo’s console.

That tidbit comes from CD Projekt Red’s new management board report. A chart included in the document shows that 11 percent of The Witcher 3’s overall sales were on Switch last year. Remember that the title debuted in mid-October on the system, so it was on the market for less than three months in 2019.

Here’s a look at the chart:

Update: The official word we have from DotEmu is that the “date is not final or confirmed”. It’s unclear if the game will be launching this month as listed on the eShop. DotEmu says it’ll be “soon”, however.

Original: Streets of Rage 4 will launch on Switch this month, according to an eShop listing. The game just received a store page showing a release date of April 23. We previously heard that it would arrive sometime this spring.

Here’s an overview of Streets of Rage 4, along with a trailer:

In a new video shared today, LEGO Group’s lead designer Jonathan Bennink shows off the new LEGO Super Mario sets. Bowser and Koopa Troopa also join the adventure in two new expansion sets: Piranha Plant Power Slide, and Bowser’s Castle Boss Battle.

Disco Elyisum

Disco Elysium, ZA/UM’S RPG that has earned acclaim from both critics and players alike, is on the way to Switch. The studio revealed plans for a port during BBC’s Game On podcast today.

When asked when Disco Elysium is coming to Switch, art director Aleksander Rostov mentioned that “this interview is, at this very moment, interrupting me from writing up design documentation for the user interface and input systems for the Switch port”. Lead narrative writer Helen Hindpere added: “I think… yeah, it’s gonna happen soon.”

For those that aren’t familiar with Disco Elysium, check out the following overview and trailer:

Masahiro Sakurai

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate still has a few DLC characters to go before the game is fully complete. With coronavirus still having a major worldwide impact, director Masahiro Sakurai is changing his approach to development. On Twitter, Sakurai confirmed that he’s now overseeing and supervising the game remotely.

Sakurai did say that this is a difficult process largely in part due to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate being a “high security project”. That being said, he has no choice but to work on future updates this way.

The next DLC character from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was recently announced to be from ARMS, who will be unveiled and released in June.

Update (4/6): This is now up for pre-order on Amazon Canada. Meanwhile, for whatever reason, it’s now unavailable on Amazon US – we’ll let you know if that changes.

Original (3/31): The Super Mario-kun manga has been ongoing in Japan since 1991. While the series has never been localized into English previously, that’ll be changing this year.

Viz Media has announced that it will offer an English version under the name “Super Mario Bros. Manga Mania”. Rather than releasing individual volumes, it sounds like we’ll instead be receiving a highlights compilation.

Here’s an official description:

The situation surrounding Cooking Mama: Cookstar just keeps getting stranger. After rumors circulated that the game was mining cryptocurrency – which was swiftly denied by the developer – a member of the team has come forward to further clarify what is actually happening.

The crux of the situation apparently involves a legal battle between publisher Planet Entertainment and IP holder Office Create. This has what resulted in the game’s removal from the eShop and scarcity in stores. Additionally, it looks like Planet Entertainment launched Cooking Mama: Cookstar “against a request by Office Create to keep polishing the game, or perhaps even canceling it.”
