Hello my beautiful materia! This week on NEP, we’re joined by special guest and JRPG expert: Barry from the Nintendo Fuse Podcast. This episode is all JRPG and Square-Enix focused, as we examine the more recent years of Square-Enix (with some love for the classics, too, of course!). Oni Dino also goes into his impressions at length about the demo of Final Fantasy VII Remake, sharing his love and frustration.

Topics include FFXIII trilogy, XIV, XV the Kingdom Hearts series, and more. We end up asking the question, “What can Square-Enix do to revitalize the series?” “What if the FFVII series of releases starts to underperform?” and “Are consumers giving this release structure a dangerous pass?” The main topic of the FFVII Remake demo leads us to talk about the issue of selling the game in multiple parts over multiple generations of hardware and over (presumably) multiple decades. We’ve got three very different, and very opinionated perspectives. Join us, as we take a very deep dive to examine the character writing, the battle system, controls, camera and more of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s demo.

Hello, my deserted villagers! This week on NEP, we’re covering the big Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Direct. Oni Dino is reminded of Fyre Fest, while Galen can’t wait to share his place and play online with friends. We also introduce Snack World in our Adventure Log, followed by an impromptu talk about why misrepresentation of marginalized groups in video games is harmful. We ebb and flow between the serious and the absurd on NEP! Plus, we talk about an upcoming, killer JRPG that’s kind of going under the radar: Trials of Mana. Come hang out.

Hello, my beautiful sewer babies! This week on NEP, our big talk is on E3. With Sony gone (for good probably) but Nintendo still attending, Oni Dino and Galen take a look at the burning question: Is E3’s importance waning? There’s a lot of elements at play on both the consumer side and the business side, and we throw our hats into the ring. Plus, we’re talking mixed first impressions on Persona 5 Scrambled Eggs, Fire Emblem: Three Houses wave 4 DLC: Cindered Shadows, the Sonic film’s release (with a shocking mention of Pee Wee Herman) and generally unhealthy mindsets in the gaming community—a discussion sparked by… you guessed it: Pokemon Sword and Shield. Let’s Gaming!

Hello, my wonderful superheroes! This week on NEP, we’ve got exclusives on The Wonderful 101: Remastered coming to Switch, PS4 and Steam via Kickstarter. Oni Dino talks about his meetings with Platinum last year, leak culture and butts in Platinum Games (of course). Galen is still holding out for Wonder Red in Smash Bros. Galen also tells more about Dragon’s Crown Pro experiences, and Oni Dino highlights some of the more bespoke writing in Tokyo Mirage Sessions. And the topic of games-as-a-service rears its head in our listener segment.

Hello, my beautiful animal buddies! This week on NEP, we’ve got a lot of games under our belt: Tokyo Mirage Sessions, Dragon’s Crown Pro, and Byleth impressions from Smash. Then, we fawn over how gorgeous this new Animal Crossing: New Horizons limited edition Switch is. And the big news about Switch outselling the SNES in under 3 years. Has Switch really been this successful? It’s surreal. Also surreal is the details finally releasing on Pokemon HOME. It’s a mixed bag, and most reaction has been less than great. And some more details on Super Nintendo World opening in Universal Studios Japan in Osaka this summer.

Hello, kids and squids! We apologize for the late episode this week, but we’ve got a really great one. This week on NEP, we’re joined by Matt Tesch from Liquid Bit of Killer Queen Black fame. He’s talking with us about their fascinating history on how this small arcade cabinet came to be an online competitive co-op phenomenon. It’s a really inspiring story that we’re excited to share with you. In addition, Galen and Oni Dino cover Nintendo’s controversial lawsuit win against Germany and Norway regarding the inability to cancel eShop pre-orders. Plus, Galen takes any shred of Mega Man Battle Network news he can get.

We’re back in the saddle with the first regular episode of 2020! This week on NEP, we’re covering the big Pokémon Sword and Shield Direct, the negative response, and trying to make sense of something when we don’t really have a dog in the fight. We also accidentally talk about Star Trek and Star Wars a bit, too? Why? Oni Dino probably has the worst take you’ve ever heard involving Pokémon and Star Wars. But also the “Great Oni Dino x Galen Argument of 2020” has already begun with the incendiary question: is Pokémon now a games-as-a-service game? We’re on opposite sides of the ring, ready to duke it out.

Happy New Year! Start off the decade on the right foot by joining Oni Dino and Galen as we predict Nintendo’s 2020! We’ve got a game with around 20 questions about Nintendo’s future and predict the outcomes. Who will be the victor? Also, there seems to be a Nintendo Direct around the corner. We want certain Smash characters as DLC and we have great, realistic arguments for why they really could be future characters. Plus, Wii U ports that make sense. And a healthy dose of Fire Emblem: Three Houses talk.
