Why it’s taken Contra so long to return
Posted on 5 years ago by Oni Dino(@Oni_Dino) in News, Switch | 0 comments
It’s been nearly a decade since the last mainline Contra game. Next week, the franchise will finally be returning with Contra: Rogue Corps. We spoke with director Nobuya Nakazato at the Tokyo Game Show and asked why it’s the right time for the series to make a comeback.
Nakazato, who has worked on Contra for over two decades, told us that he’s personally been pushing for the IP’s return. However, there were a few barriers in the way, such as getting approval and the timing was never right. Finding the right team and the resources involved also played a role.

At E3 2019, we had a chance to speak with Natsume producer Taka Maekawa. We talked Harvest Moon: Mad Dash and how it came to be, the company’s new indie program, the possibility of revisiting more classic IPs similar to what was done with Wild Guns Reloaded, and more. Oh, and we snuck in a question about Medabots as well.
Here’s our full discussion:

PlatinumGames on Astral Chain – origins, Kamiya’s involvement, how Legions changed during development, more

Famitsu recently published an interview with Astral Chain director Takahisa Taura and supervisor Hideki Kamiya. While we posted some tidbits previously, we’ve taken another look at the discussion and have a bunch of additional information to share.
Taura knew that directing was a tough and lonely endeavor, but it was even tougher and lonelier than he expected. Since it was a new IP, it was hard to define what was right and wrong to do, so he tried out a lot of ideas during production. He gained even more respect for Kamiya since he’s been a director so many times before.

Hello, my DLC fighters! In today’s episode of NEP, we’re in Tokyo for upcoming Tokyo Game Show. Please excuse the audio quality as we gush about the Nintendo Direct that slayed us. Destiny is the Animal Crossing of Shlooters, Overwatch.Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, new Kirby, Pokemon curry and new designs that are dumb- we love them. SNES games on Switch finally. And Animal Crossing is the cyberpunk of non-binary accessibility options. And Oni goes wild for Xenoblade. And so much more.

Inti Creates has a lot going on these days. Between Gunvolt, Blaster Master Zero, and Dragon Marked for Death, in a way there’s something for everyone.
When we had a chance to speak with Inti Creates president Takuya Aizu at E3 2019, we asked about almost everything the company has been working on as of late. That includes Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger IX (and what they’ve been able to do on Switch that wasn’t possible on 3DS), what to expect from future Dragon Marked for Death updates, whether we could see another Sunsoft revival like Blaster Master, and more.

[Nintendo Everything Podcast] – episode #43 – Gamescom: WE DO IT! (feat Avalanche Reviews)
Posted on 5 years ago by Oni Dino(@Oni_Dino) in Podcast | 0 comments
Hello, my Chocobos and Cactuars! This week on NEP, we’ve got the simultaneous worst and best episode yet! We’ve got Jared of Avalanche Reviews guesting in, but Galen’s mic crapped out once or twice, so his commentary is a little light in a few spots.
But Jared is here to get super nerdy with us about upscaling output video on retro consoles, as all three of us bond over Resident Evil and the best boys of YouTube. In particular, Jared talks about getting the best picture possible out of the SNES, N64 and GCN consoles; the Framemeister; and technical nonsense of video and retro graphics explained in easy-to-understand detail.

Nintendo fans don’t have to worry about Inti Creates slowing down on its support for Switch. Although the developer has been experimenting with more platforms as of late, the Big N’s console remains a top priority.

Inti Creates on the future of the Gunvolt series, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 should happen eventually
Posted on 5 years ago by Oni Dino(@Oni_Dino) in News, Switch | 0 comments
Inti Creates is going in a slightly different direction with the Gunvolt series. After a pair of Azure Striker Gunvolt titles, we’re now getting Luminous Avenger IX – a project starring Copen. What does that mean for the future of the overall franchise?
Inti Creates CEO Takuya Aizu clarified the situation in a recent interview with Nintendo Everything. Aizu indicated that there are essentially different series with Azure Striker Gunvolt and Luminous Avenger IX, both of which have different directors leading them.

Hello, my beautiful bubbles and bobbles. This week on NEP, we’re gushing about Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Oni tries (and fails) to not talk about FE3H the entire episode, while Galen picks arbitrary battles as he defends Cooking Mama. Oni also gives some first impressions with the Grandia HD Collection, and the gang discusses all the game announcements and details we got this week! Could a Nintendo Direct be coming next month?
We finish things off by chatting about games with sequels where one was exponentially better than the other. Both Galen and Oni dive into their pasts to pull up some sore memories of their favorite games…
