Laura talks more than ever about 999 and Gone Home!

Predictably, we got a fair share of listener mail this week on the topic of sexism in games, so we do some more discussing of that topic during our reader mail segment. Beyond that, Laura talks a lot about 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors and Gone Home, whereas Austin discusses his review copy of Rune Factory 4. Jack chimes in with some useful life advice after the break, and a giant chunk of listener questions mail ends the show! No reader poll or book club this week.

Accidental topic of the week: Grand Theft Auto V, and how it relates to gender roles in video games.

The highlight of this podcast, in my opinion, is the heated discussion we spontaneously had about the issue of sexism and gender in games. Aside from that, we go over your news, the games we played during the week, some great listener mail about games that we want to love but simply can’t, and a feature topic about The Wind Waker HD. Enjoy!

Wonderful-101-590x235

When the job’s too ominous for your average Jill or Joe…

It’s funny how much a broken computer fan can completely destroy your concentration during a podcast, and because of that, you can expect plenty of non sequiturs and tangents during this episode! Other than that, it’s pretty straightforward: Some talk about The Wonderful 101, Tangram Style, and Bit.Trip Runner rounds out What We Played, news makes its return, listener mail is pretty solid, and our book club about the next section of EarthBound was quite good!

Everybody loves Rayman.

Laura’s back! This episode features discussion on a lot of topics: Steamworld Dig, Super Mario 3D Land, and Bayonetta sneak into “What We Played”, the news makes its regular return, a discussion on the future of Mario ends just as it starts, and a talk about EarthBound for the Book Club rounds everything out! Also, we got the longest email we’ve ever gotten this week from a guy that’s really angry at Nintendo.

One of the many topics we discussed: The 2DS.

Laura sadly had to miss another week, and Aysha couldn’t fill in! This means it’s our first two-man show ever, and I’d say that in spite of that it worked out pretty well. We kick things off with a discussion on the merits of EDGE’s ‘Top Ten Consoles’ list, followed by what we played (Super Mario 3D Land, Hotline Miami), news (2DS, Wii U price cut), listener mail, and the book club discussion on Earthbound.

It’ll make more sense by the end of the podcast.

Where’s Laura!? Unfortunately due to some unintentional scheduling conflicts, she had to miss this episode. Filling in for her is someone you may recognize name of “Aysha”, who takes over all of Laura’s regular duties in order to keep our podcast ship sailing. We talk about Animal Crossing vs. Harvest Moon, how Nintendo should market Wii U, and whether or not gameplay-driven games are going “out of style”– in addition to news, listener mail, etc.

Despite the temporary loss of everyone’s favorite podcast gal, I think we managed to scrape together something pretty dang good! Enjoy.

I hope you guys like EarthBound…

EarthBound dominates the latter half of this week’s podcast, but we also talk a bit about Pikmin 3, DuckTales Remastered, and whether or not voice acting is always better than no voice acting. Enjoy the discussions, the listener mail, and the book club!

Windows ’95.

Despite not having a book club discussion OR a listener poll (sorry!), we still manage to make it to two hours due to a lengthy discussion of Pikmin 3, tons of listener mail, and lots of news-talking. Regular show, as always!

This episode in a nutshell.

A long, drawn out, meaty episode to be sure! We talk about games like Cloudberry Kingdom, Katamari Damacy, and 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, after which we go over your weekly news, listener questions, and a discussion about the Wii U Gamepad: Has the device proven its worth yet, or are we still waiting?

The podcast of apes. In a good way.

We shall call this episode the “podcast of monkeys”, for we acted like apes a lot of the time. The last five minutes of the podcast don’t even have anything to do with video games, and yet… I think it’s better that way! We do manage to discuss Lollipop Chainsaw, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Shin Megami Tensei IV for a bit, and listener mail manages to go so long that we have to push our discussion of the Wii U Gamepad to next week! Apologies, but I hope you enjoy anyway.
